Meeting Format

When the meeting is about to start, a bell will be rung and members will stand by their seats. The meeting is opened by our sergeant. The President will make some toasts and lead the club in our invocation- “For good food, good fellowship and the privilege to serve, we give thanks.”

The club is seated. Guests are introduced briefly to the Club and Notices and announcements are made.

Meals are buffet style followed by self-serve tea and coffee.

Following the meal, the sergeant leads a “fine session” to raise club funds, and draws a raffle. You may be asked to select the winning ticket.

After the meal is finished, there is a short break. Your presentation will follow the break, usually at around 7:25pm

Your presentation

You and your topic will be introduced by a chairperson chosen for the meeting.

You are welcome to follow any format you wish in your presentation. The chairperson will give you a signal if required when your allotted time is nearing its end. They will then direct the question session, selecting the next question and keeping an eye on the time available.

When your presentation is over, the chairperson will call on another member to move a vote of thanks.

The meeting will close shortly after your presentation.

About Our Club

The Rotary Club of Canberra City was chartered in 1975. There are currently about 50 members.

Through fundraising activities including our popular antiques fairs (held twice annually) and Belconnen Trash and Treasure Market, the club raises funds for a wide variety of projects locally, nationally and internationally. We support projects to end poverty, spread education and health and provide opportunities for those who would otherwise go without.

Some examples of projects the Club supports are the Canberra Careers Expo (providing inspiration and information on vocational options for the local community) and Polio Plus- Rotary International’s long-running global campaign to eradicate polio.

These are just two of the causes our club supports. We also enjoy fellowship within a diverse club, with members from a range of ages and backgrounds.

Rotary is non-profit, secular and apolitical.

Our ideal is “Service Above Self”

Thank you again for agreeing to speak at our Club. We look forward to your presentation and welcome you to contact us if you would be interested in attending meetings in the future.
